I think "Talent is better than stealing" is unfortunately worded. My non-binding recommendation would be: "Skill surpasses plagiarism." or "Skill outdoes plagiarism."
"Plagiarism" is clearer wording than "stealing", because, obviously, most art is based on the ideas, concepts, and techniques developed by those who came before us. Some writers literally use "I am stealing from" rather than "I was inspired by" because they feel that this does other writers more justice. Two quotes on the matter:
"Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal."
– T. S. Eliot
"The greatest part of a writer's time is spent in reading, in order to write:
A man will turn over half a library to make one book."
– Samuel Johnson

"Talent" is something one is born with - implying that artists who were 'born lucky' are superior. ( https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/talent )
"Skill" is acquired through training. ( https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/skill )
